Parma and its territory are par excellence where food and food specialities are the real identity of a generous land.
A vocation that has now become true culture.
So it’s not surprising that more than 40 international artists should have wanted to measure themselves against it.
Their works will be on show in “Foodscapes – Art & Gastronomy”, the modern art exhibition held in Parma, that natural gastronomic capital, on the premises of the ex Trento Cinema, and organised by Lóránd Hegyi, international art critic and Director of the Modern Art Museum of Saint Etiénne.
The exhibition, open to the public from 7 October 2007 to 6 January 2008, presents a vast range of works on the complex subject of eating, in a historical, anthropological, sociological and cultural context.
This basic activity means and evokes unlimited references of a social, cultural, linguistic, political, ideological, religious, anthropological, medical and clinical kind and touches on really sensitive areas, taboos, prohibited territories, hidden, unconscious content conditioned by a cultural and historical context, determined by education.
The president of the Province, Vincenzo
Bernazzoli:
“ we wanted to do something different to give added value to gastronomy: something unlike anything else done nationally, bringing Parma to the forefront internationally, underlining the link our reality has with food and creating the picture of a young, open, innovative, European land. A challenge we accepted happily that can open new, really interesting roads for the future”.
