Find out about animal welfare

Animal Welfare is not only a distinctive characteristic of our ZERO LINE, but it is also a fundamental element of the Parmacotto Quality Programme.
Animal Welfare does not only refer to the physical health and wellbeing of animals, but also to their psychological comfort and their ability to express their natural behaviours.
Every link of the supply chain is certified by internationally recognized third party bodies.
Animal Welfare and the Parmacotto Linea Zero:

ZERO use of antibiotics at birth
From birth to slaughtering animals cannot be administered any antibiotics. If animals need an antibiotic-based pharmacological treatment for their own protection, the treatment is administered, but the pigs concerned leave the programme to follow a different supply chain.

ZERO use of growth hormones
From birth to slaughtering animals cannot be administered any growth hormones, including natural and synthetic hormones or other growth promoting substances.

100% plant-based feeding
Pigs exclusively follow a plant-based diet throughout their growth stages. Feeding them animal by-products, animal proteins and fish meals is forbidden.

100% comfortable environments
All environments are carefully designed to ensure the highest hygiene and safety standards. Slatted floors and gestation crates are forbidden. Sows are granted freedom of movement up to 7 days before giving birth without using gestation crates. Furthermore, specific safety labour rooms are designed to ensure freedom of movement of the sows and to protect piglets. Animal Welfare is not only a distinctive feature of the LINEA ZERO, but it is also a key element of the Parmacotto Quality Programme.
